Palm Springs Public Library holds Star Wars family fun night

Star Wars fans of all ages converged on the Palm Springs library tonight as part of their family fun night.

The night started off with a tribute to Carrie Fisher, a moment of silence was held as everyone raised their glow stick light sabers to honor Princess Leia.

Members from the 501st legion surprised fans, taking pictures with little Darth Vaders and Luke Skywalkers. The legion makes appearances at numerous charity events in the hopes of generating interest in the Star Wars world.

Kids paraded around the library for the night’s costume contest and took pictures with R2D2. The night was all in an effort to get kids interested in reading.

“We want to encourage literacy here at the Palm Springs Public Library its one of our main goals here. And January is also the time when kids are doing their science fair projects and a little tie in to get them to continue their science fair projects, why not do star wars reads?” said Nancy Valdivia, librarian at the Palm Springs library.
