Driver arrested in deadly Palm Springs crash

The driver of the sedan was identified as Robert Garcia Jr. and he was determined to be under the influence of drugs. Garcia was taken into custody and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on several felony violations. __________________________________
One person was killed in a two vehicle collision at the intersection of N. Sunrise and Amado in Palm Springs.
According to PSPD, the wreck happened at at around 5:50 p.m. Monday evening.
Upon arrival, PSPD Officers determined an SUV was traveling north on Sunrise Way when a driver in a sedan traveling south made a left hand turn onto Amado Road in front of the oncoming vehicle.
A passenger of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants from the sedan and two occupants from the SUV were transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated.
PSPD said neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected as factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision was asked to contact Traffic Investigator Kevin Lu at 760-323-8125.
