Local business owner killed in Irvine double homicide

The owner of a downtown Palm Springs boutique was killed in a double homicide.

Gloria Pillay, 58, operated Lady Lulu’s, a jewelry and clothing store.

One of Pillay’s sons also died in the attack. Her eldest son is now accused in the killings.

37-year-old Nolan Pillay was in court Thursday facing murder charges.

The bodies of Gloria Pillay and her 35-year-old son Arlyn Pillay were found Tuesday afternoon inside a home on Crystal Circle in Irvine. Nolan was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators have not released a suspected motive for the shooting deaths, but did say a gun was found.

Neighbors in Irvine say a person could be heard yelling `”I’m sorry, I’m sorry” around the time of the killings.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to cover funeral expenses and keep her shops in the valley open.

A post on the page reads, “Arlyn and Lulu Pillay were the lights that that lit up our path in the art world. Two people that expressed love and peace through their artwork.”
