Vicim identified in deadly Palm Springs DUI crash

The Palm Springs Police Department has arrested a 50-year-old Yucca Valley man suspected of driving under the influence of drugs before causing a deadly crash at the intersection of E. Amado Road and Sunrise Way Monday night.

Officers said Robert Garcia Jr. was driving a sedan south on Sunrise Way when he made a left hand turn onto Amado Road in front of an oncoming SUV.

The front passenger of the sedan, 39-year-old Keon Parks of Yucca Valley was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger in the back was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened at about 5:50 p.m.

The driver and a passenger in the SUV were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries following the crash.

Garcia was booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for several felony violations, officers said in the release.

Garcia’s arraignment was scheduled for Thursday, February 2, but it was postponed until Friday morning. KESQ and CBS Local 2 will keep you updated as the case moves through court.
