50 dogs impounded in North Shore sweeps

Riverside County Animal Services officers impounded 37 dogs and collected 13 strays during two sweeps of the North Shore community in late January.

Officials say they also issued 19 citations for violations including failure to license pets and allowing animals to run at large.

In September 2015, a man was attacked and killed and a woman was seriously injured by two dogs in the North Shore area. Animal services released photos of the two dogs that were detained after the attacks.

Roaming dogs are a safety concern that officials say they are working to address. Animal Services officials cited a dog attack in 2015 that killed a resident and hurt another. Officials say they are looking for help from the community to report vicious dogs or free-roaming animals.

The number to reach Coachella Valley Animal Campus is 760-343-3644.

To help pet owners in the community, a mobile spay and neuter bus will continue to visit the area.

The next scheduled stop is Saturday, February 25. The bus will be at the Mecca Family Service Center & Community Health Clinic. To make an appointment, call 951-358-7335 or email shelterinfo@rivco.com.
