Fire extinguished at Riverside County Jail in Indio

Authorities said an electrical fire at the Riverside County Jail in Indio has been extinguished. The fire was reported at about 10:42 a.m. Friday.

The sheriff’s department said inmates had to be moved to a safe area when the fire alarm sounded, but all jail operations are back to normal now.

Firefighters arrived after smoke was reported at the jail. The jail is located in the 46000 block of Oasis Street in Indio. The exact cause of the electrical fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
