President Trump’s travel ban rejected, local reaction divided

A travel ban placed on seven predominately Muslim country’s travelers from entering the U.S. has been rejected by the federal appeals court. At Palm Springs International Airport, travelers were left divided on the decision.

“I travel on a green card and I’m an immigrant from Canada and so it suddenly became very real to me,” Sal Ariganello said.

Ariganello said it was a process to get his green card.

“We have a very rigorous vetting process in place and to arbitrarily stop it and leave these people in limbo like with all the green cards not being allowed in. It makes us look terrible,” Ariganello said.

Travelers at Palm Springs International Airport have mixed views with the federal appeals court’s decision to reject President Donald Trump’s appeal. One traveler said he’s on board with the ban.

“Terrorism is real and you have to do something to stop it,” Fred Prior said.

Another person says she supports the decision of the court because the ban left too many people stranded.

“It seemed very rash. The agencies that needed to support it were caught off guard and I think there were a lot of employees who were trying to do the right thing who were guessing,” Mary Haight said.

But there was common ground. Most agreed the the president may have acted too quickly.

“They need to go back and figure out how to get the input that they need,” Ariganello said.

“There may be dangers and if that’s the case he needs to put together a plan that can be supported and won’t be contested in the courts,” Haight said.

Through Twitter, Trump promised to fight the federal court’s rejection.
