Thousands stolen from Palm Springs elementary school

Thousands of dollars were stolen from a Palm Springs elementary school, according to Palm Springs Police.

PSPD are investigating who might have stolen money and checks from Katherine Finchy Elementary School over the course of a three-month period.

According to Sgt. Hutchinson, somebody broke into the school not once, but three times, since December. The thief targeted a room in the administration area all three times.

The thief was able to gain access by using a security code. Police say their suspect also knew how to deactivate the alarm system.

The most recent theft happened between late Feb. 21 and early Feb. 22.

“The money was supposed to go toward a fourth-grade field trip, fifth-grade science camp and student council programs. Despite the loss, none of those activities were canceled,” Palm Springs Unified School District spokeswoman Joan Boiko said.

Police are asking that if anyone knows anything, please call PSPD.
