Cal Fire douses house fire in Desert Hot Springs

Cal Fire crews quickly put out an apartment fire in Desert Hot Springs Wednesday afternoon. The fire broke out just before 2:30 p.m. at an apartment on Caliente Drive.

Crews were able to contain it to one room at the two-unit apartment complex. Nobody was home at the time of the fire, authorities said.

Neighbors said the unit has been vacant for months, but they regularly see squatters breaking into the one-bedroom apartment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
