Police are searching for armed robbery suspect

KESQ and CBS Local 2 are learning more about an armed robbery at a Circle K in Cathedral City last night. Some frequent customers are raising concerns about the incident.

“At that time I just passed by. I came from a baseball game. I had my kid with me and I was thinking of stopping by, but when I saw the police…it was so sad. I’m nervous now ’cause this happened right here, pretty close to my house,” Adrian Gutierrez, a regular customer said.

Cathedral City police say a 27-year-old man, who is yet to be identified, was working at the time of the robbery. The robber fired at the store clerk with a handgun and demanded he open the cash register. Police later found the store clerk with a gunshot wound in his upper body.

Regulars, like Gutierrez say the store clerk who they believe was shot is a kind, reserved man.

“He’s pretty quiet, really respectful. I feel really bad, ’cause I know they have family here. Sometimes when I come to the store I see his family,” Gutierrez said.

“He was more subdued and maybe the person who did this took advantage of that,” said another regular customer.

Police are investigating. The robber is still at large.
