Man hospitalized after car collides with golf cart in Palm Desert

A senior citizen was hospitalized Thursday after his golf cart was struck by a vehicle, ejecting him from the cart on the grounds of a Palm Desert golf club.

Robert Dyer, 84, of Palm Desert, was behind the wheel of a golf cart just after 11 a.m. at the Mountain Vista Golf Club at Sun City Palm Desert. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Radford, Byer was approaching the intersection of Gray Hawk Drive and Del Webb Boulevard when his cart was struck from behind by 82-year-old Palm Desert resident Barbara Heinrichs, who was driving northbound on Del Webb Boulevard in a 2012 Toyota Camry.

Byer was thrown from the cart and suffered moderate injuries, Radford said.

He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment.

Heinrichs was uninjured and alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash.
