Suspect leads police on pursuit through Thousand Palms

Deputies are investigating after a suspect led authorities on a pursuit through Thousand Palms Friday afternoon. The incident happened after an officer saw a driver that appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

According to Deputy Armando Munoz with the sheriff’s department, the officer tired to pull the suspect over at about 4:20 p.m. on Varner Road, just east of Bob Hope Drive. The suspect drove off but stopped about a minute later to surrender to authorities.

Deputy Munoz said the driver had injuries, which may have been self-inflicted. The cause of the suspect’s injuries are still under investigation.
