Man arrested after leading police on high speed pursuit
A 21-year-old parolee was arrested Friday after running from police during a parole search and leading them on a high-speed pursuit from Cathedral City to Desert Hot Springs.
Cathedral City police officers arrived to James Goodwin’s residence in the 68400 block of Riviera Road just before 8 a.m. Goodwin refused to open the door and fled out of the back of the residence, climbing over a block wall and running from the area, according to Sgt. Larry Sanfillippo.
Goodwin was seen entering a vehicle nearby and driving away from the area. A parole warrant was issued for Goodwin’s arrest.
A few hours later, officers saw Goodwin driving the same vehicle in Cathedral City. They tried to pull him over at Vista Chino and Palm Drive, but he drove away, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit into an unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs.
Authorities said Goodwin tried to drive through a vacant desert area and his vehicle became disabled. He ran from the vehicle but was eventually arrested .
Goodwin is charged with violating parole and felony evading.
There was quite a bit of police activity on Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs Friday morning through the afternoon. A deadly crash occurred early Friday morning and a four-vehicle crash happened about 10 minutes after the road was reopened from the first crash.
