Cathedral City’s mayor says city is heading in the right direction

Cathedral City mayor Stan Henry gave his state of the city address Tuesday evening at the Doubletree resort.

In his address, Mayor Henry said he’s excited about a $1.4 million grant for an amphitheater and park, and construction on a five-acre parcel of land that the city is planning to construct retail shops and 100 condos on.

“We got downtown events, new construction, new roads. We have a balanced budget. We have a lot of activity Cathedral City is on the move and we’re here to make sure that our community is able to understand and able to know that so they can have a prosperous life themselves,” Mayor Henry told us after his speech.

Mayor Henry also talked about how more is expected to come out of their anticipated move into the marijuana industry since the state voted to legalize recreational pot.

“We’ve been very active in our medicinal marijuana, we set forth tax measures the community was beneficial in passing two of those tax measures. We got land that is available for them and we have ordinances in place so that we can control it in a manner that would help the community but would also keep the community safe,” said Mayor Henry.

Mayor Henry continued, “We do have a moratorium on dispensaries because we had 40 applications and we need the staff to be able to catch up with that. But the cultivation and other areas are still able — to, if there’s land available and places available, make applications for those.”
