Michigan teen reported missing for over a year found safe in Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Police Department has located a teen who was reported missing out of Michigan over a year ago. Officer said they located 16-year-old Cody Page at a hotel in the 500 block of East Palm Canyon Drive Wednesday at about 8:30 a.m. We confirmed the hotel was a Motel 6.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 were the first to report Page’s story locally after receiving a notification from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on Monday morning.

Cody was reported missing out of Saginaw, Michigan and was last seen on March 15, 2016.

Palm Springs police received a call that Cody was possibly staying in a hotel after an employee recognized him from reports in the media.

PSPD responded to the location and contacted Page nearby. PSPD confirmed Page’s identity and began investigating the incident. Page was recovered from the location and PSPD is continuing the investigation into this incident while working with authorities in Michigan, officers said Wednesday morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed Page was not the victim of a crime and did not require any type of medical attention. Page’s biological mother was located nearby and is cooperating with PSPD Detectives. As it turned out, Cody was staying with his mom. He had contacted her via Facebook after he had run away from what she described as “an unhealthy foster situation.”

Cody’s biological mother resides in Thousand Palms and while she would like to keep her son with her — police are now working on sending him back to Michigan, as she does not have legal custody of him. His mother wishes he could stay here and is exploring her legal options.

This incident is a great example of an alert citizen reporting suspicious activity and the media assisting authorities and the community by ensuring the safe recovery of a reported missing juvenile, authorities said.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as we hear back from authorities regarding Wednesday’s discovery of the missing teen.
