$250,000 in high-end jewelry stolen from Palm Desert gated community

Homeowner said burglar stole family heirlooms, jewelry and identification documents from her gated community home.

“The safe was tucked under all the clothes, it was a small safe with a handle, it would be very easy for someone to pick it up,” Maureen said.

Maureen is a Palm Desert homeowner who didn’t want us to reveal her identity.

Last month, she said her home was under construction.

She was looking to upgrade her closet when she couldn’t find her safe.

“I had a closet company scheduled, so I moved all of my finest valuables into a small safe in my closet the morning of the day the work was going to be done I noticed that my safe was missing,” Maureen said.

She said she had more than $250,000 worth of appraised jewelry, her family’s social security cards, passports and 25 years of gifts from her children stored in that safe.

“Every year they would give me a charm on my birthday, Mother’s day. That to me was the most important piece its not of the highest value but it meant the world to me,” Maureen said.

She thinks it was an inside job because nothing else was taken.

She said she hopes someone will know what happened to her things.

“All though I feel very safe in my community that I live in, it’s definitely a frightening experience,” Maureen said.

Maureen said she is offering a $10,000 reward for the return of her belongings. If anyone has any information they are asked to call Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
