3rd Annual Sports Heroes Luncheon features Al Michaels
INDIAN WELLS, Calif.-
“Are you ready for some football?” Al Michaels said as he addressed the room.
Maybe not time for football quite yet, but it is time for the 3rd Annual Sports Heroes Luncheon featuring Michaels behind the mic.
“I really believe in what the folks are doing here, I think Boys and Girls Clubs not only here in the Coachella Valley but around the country are really important, especially at this time and what is going on in the country and the world right now, don’t think there has ever been a time more important.”
The event raises money for Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coachella Valley. Eight thousand kids a year are impacted, including some in the past that have become the outstanding high school talent of the present.
“Build a foot step for others to follow, not go the same place I go but somewhere that they can better themselves and do something better for the community. Knowing that someone is looking at what you did, worked hard for, it’s a great feeling.” Frolian Rodriguez said, a Desert Mirage football stand out headed on scholarship to Western New Mexico.
New members inducted into the Hall of Fame including Tommy John, and the talent of right now taking center stage, honored as the best of their sport.
“I am very honored to be here, being recognized as some of the top talent.” Lucas Rosales said, the DVL MVP in boys soccer.
“it is a great event to really spotlight these kids, how hard they worked, give them some recognized here in the valley. These kids have worked hard and sacrificed a lot.” said Matt Garrison, head coach of the CIF champion Desert Christian basketball squad.
In the end remembering what is important.
“A lot of these kids don’t realize it right now, 30-40-50 years they are going to look back and this being one of the best times in their lives and how much they have learned from it.” Al Michaels said.
