Valley woman spreads joy one rock at a time
One Coachella Valley woman is doing her apart to bring joy to the lives of others.
Annette Fitzsimmons spent the last six months spearheading a campaign that has Valley residents painting small rocks with pictures and uplifting slogans and then hiding them all around the area for others to find.
Fitzsimmons said she was inspired after seeing a similar movement in Vancouver, Washington. Members of the La Quinta Rocks Facebook page hide the rocks in places such as a hiking trail or outside of a restaurant in the hopes it will bring some happiness to whomever finds it.
“There’s about 20 people actively painting now,” Fitzsimmons explained to KESQ News Channel 3’s and CBS Local 2’s Katie Widner. “They live in Palm Desert, Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage as well. They all put ‘La Quinta Rocks’ on the back.”
Fitzsimmons said finders can then connect with the Facebook page and add a picture and the story of their discovery.
People can add the rocks to their garden, give them away or even hide them for someone else to find. She said it also helps to fill her Facebook feed with positive stories from people from all over who have found them.
Some of the rocks will be featured at the City of La Quinta’s Easter Egg Hunt on April 15th, where they will be placed around the venue for people to find. The city is accepting painted rocks at the La Quinta Wellness Center prior to April 13th. If you would like to help spread the joy, you can drop off painted rocks with the staff at 78450 Avenida La Fonda.
