Family releases photos of boy killed in elementary school shooting

The family of eight-year-old Jonathan Martinez, who was standing near his special education teacher when they were both shot to death in a San Bernardino elementary school classroom on Monday morning, has shared photos of the boy on Tuesday.

Jonathan and his teacher, 53-year-old Karen Elaine Smith, were shot by Smith’s estranged husband, 53-year-old Cedric Anderson. A nine-year-old student was also injured in the shooting but was in stable condition at the hospital, according to police.

There were 15 students in the classroom at the time of the shooting and police said the children were not targeted by Anderson and were likely struck by accident.

Authorities said the special needs classroom included students from grades 1-4.
