Indio Police to stream backstage at Coachella Fest

Recently Sgt. Dan Marshall with the Indio Police Dept. has been been doing some 21st century policing by using Facebook Live to keep residents in the loop and to keep people informed of criminal activity.

Fans of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival might want to click “like” on the Indio Police Facebook page to get a unique perspective of the concert.

“It’s almost have like a virtual tour of what it’s like to be at Coachella backstage with the operations chief of the event and with the law enforcement branch during Coachella. I’m going to be doing some Facebook lives from some unique spots there at Coachella,” Marshall said.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR COACHELLA AND STAGECOACH

Not a fan of Facebook? How about Twitter?

“We also have a Twitter page so we will be sending a lot of pictures out there through Twitter that most people don’t get to see during Coachella because we have unparalleled access to the entire venue,” Marshall said.

It’s not just cool backstage looks that will be posted, but also important safety alerts. For instance, if there are strong winds coming through the area or traffic backups in certain parts of the route.

The Indio Police Department isn’t alone in this onslaught of social media.

“We will put it out on Twitter, the fire department will put it out, and then the promoter through their app. So we will have multiple different agencies all putting out the same message at the same time, that way we get the largest coverage that we can,” Marshall said.

After the festival season, Marshall is planning on using Facebook and Twitter more to keep the people of Indio in the loop when there is police activity.
