H1-B visa applications decline for first time in 5 years

Fewer people want to come to work in America. That’s according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The federal agency handles processing visa applications. It announced Monday that H1-B visa applications fell below two hundred thousand this year for the first time in five years. An H1-B visa is for immigrants with academic degrees looking to work in their fields of study in the u-s. Those high-skilled foreign workers are used to fill the skills gap in the U.S. working in fields such as science and technology. While the number of applicants has dropped the U.S.C.I.S. says the program’s cap was met five days into the enrollment period for its fifth consecutive year.
