Multiple pickpocket arrests made at Coachella Weekend 2
UPDATE: 12:36 p.m.
5 people are in jail Saturday, after Indio Police and Riverside County District Attorney’s Office investigators found more than 40 cell phones stolen at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this weekend.
According to Indio Police, law enforcement received multiple reports of people having their cell phones taken inside the festival.
Officers then found two different groups of suspects that had multiple phones.
Suspects in Group 1 were 35-year-old Angela Trivino from New York, NY, and 38-year-old Viviana Hernandez from Los Angeles, CA.
Suspects in Group 2 were 29-year-old Brenda Cansino from Miami, FL, 25-year-old Sharon Ruiz from Van Nuys, CA, and 27-year-old Marco Leon from Los Angeles, CA.
All 5 suspects were booked into the Riverside County Jail Saturday morning, charged with grand theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Police said Leon was also charged with theft from a person.
Along with the cell phones, officers said they found several forms of personal identification, credit card and cash.
IPD officers said all phones recovered from last night’s arrests will be turned into festival Lost and Found, near the main entrance south of the ferris wheel.

This comes after officers found more than 100 cell phones stolen during Weekend 1 of Coachella last weekend.
IPD officers also recommend protecting your valuable by placing them in your front pockets, and putting an elastic band around it.
Local technology experts say there are also security apps that can be installed to help find missing phones.

The Indio Police Department announced it’s made several more theft arrests at Coachella Friday night.
Sgt. Dan Marshall tweeted that 40 more cell phones were recovered following those arrests.
