Woman arrested on suspicion of spanking children with wooden spoon

A 33-year-old woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of using a wooden spoon to discipline her children.

Deputies said they were called to an alleged child abuse report in the 6300 block of Goleta Way in Yucca Valley at 4:45 p.m. A deputy arrived and spoke with two children at the home who had substantial bruising to their buttock area, according to the sheriff’s release.

Authorities learned the children’s mother, Stephanie Bender, had disciplined her children the day before using a wooden spoon at their house.

Detectives arrived to the home and Bender was arrested on suspicion of inflicting traumatic injury upon a child. She was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and is being held on $100,000 bail.
