Man accused of stealing golf cart after ripping out hospital IV fails to show for court
A 21-year-old man accused of stealing a golf cart after abruptly discharging himself from Eisenhower Medical Center this past December has failed to show for court, prompting the district attorney’s office to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Angel Lopez Roldan didn’t show up for his felony settlement conference on Wednesday, May 3. The court has issued a $20,000 bench warrant for his arrest, authorities announced Thursday. Roldan was on felony probation for burglary at the time of the theft.
The golf cart, valued at $4,000, was stolen at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27.
Deputies were called to the 39000 block of Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage after hospital security reported the incident. The golf cart was parked in front of the Annenberg building of the hospital when it was stolen.
Roldan was allegedly seen driving away in the golf cart on surveillance video at the hospital. After reviewing the video, a hospital security guard recalled an incident that happened in the emergency room shortly before the golf cart was stolen.
The security guard said Roldan left the hospital after ripping out his IV and was wearing identical clothing as the suspect seen driving away in the stolen golf cart. Roldan was also seen leaving the hospital through a door right near the spot where the golf cart was parked, according to authorities.
As police continue to search for Roldan, he’s facing charges of grand theft and violating his probation.
