Crews reopen I-10 after FedEx spilled cargo on the Freeway

11:00 AM Update: CHP and Cal Trans re-opened the roadway around 10:00 a.m. Cause of crash is still under investigation.

A Sig-Alert was continued Friday morning after a big rig semi truck overturned along Interstate 10 just east of Coachella.

A FedEx truck was hauling two trailers when its driver lost control and flipped the truck blocking both of the freeway’s westbound lanes just east of Dillon Road.

The wreck was reported at 1:20 a.m.

As of 9:00 a.m. traffic was still backed up three miles or more in the westbound travel direction, and motorists were slowly passing by the blockage using the road’s side shoulder.

The truck’s second trailer split open blocking lanes. Firefighters were also working to limit a fuel leak.

No injuries were reported.
