Man pleads guilty to armed robbery of Palm Springs eatery, gets 4 years in prison

A man who robbed a Palm Springs restaurant at gunpoint pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of robbery and was immediately sentenced to four years in state prison.

Deshawn Michael Celestine, 21, entered an eatery in the 2500 block of East Tahquitz Canyon Way on April 24, brandished a handgun and demanded money from employees, according to Palm Springs police.

Celestine made his getaway on a bicycle but was captured the following morning after being spotted by a Palm Springs officer who determined he matched the description of the robbery suspect.

He was arrested near Sunrise Way and Ramon Road, just southwest of the restaurant.
