Local charity serving active duty Marines celebrating 10th anniversary

A local charity is celebrating 10 years of service providing free transportation for active duty USMC service members and their families between local airports and the 29 Palms Marine base.

According to founding director, Erica Stone, over the last decade, over 135,500 Marines have been transported through over 45,000 trips. That’s about 6,780,600 miles driven which is just over 273 times around the world.

The service is provided through a team of volunteers that use their own vehicles and time and helps cover costs for Marine families as a trip from Palm Springs Airport or Ontario Airport could cost hundreds of dollars each way. Stone said it was a way to provide “A Ride Home” for those brave men and women.

The celebration will be taking place at the charity’s headquarters and resale boutique at 77851 Las Montanas Road in Palm Desert. It will begin at 10 a.m.
