Evening at the Pueblo raises money for Cabot’s Pueblo Museum

Many gathered in Desert Hot Springs Saturday to a support a local historic landmark.

The Cabot’s Pueblo Museum hosted their annual Evening at the Pueblo gala.

Organizers and city leaders said the western-themed, end of the year party is a big fundraiser, with ticket proceeds and donations helping the musuem and its school programs that keep the story of settler, Cabot Yerxa, alive today.

“It’s a way to teach our visitors about the history, [and] about homesteading,” Cabot’s Foundation Board Chair John Mahoney said. “Cabot [Yerxa] settled here in 1913, [and] started building this pueblo at the age of 58 out of recycled materials. He taught about culture, and we continue that same education today.”

“It’s important to keep fundraising for this because of the historical value of what Desert Hot Springs is really about,” Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas said. “Hot and cold water was found here. One of the first founders built his home here. And it’s a historical monument for Desert Hot Springs. It’s very important.”
