Sheriff will not call you to collect payments, don’t fall for this scam

Some Coachella Valley residents have been receiving a call from Deputy O’Neal with the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Office Civil Processing Division — the only problem is, the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station doesn’t have a Civil Processing Division — this is a phone scam.

Deputies warn that you shouldn’t register for any payment options or send any type of payment. According to the sheriff’s release, the department does not call anyone to collect payments. If you receive this type of call, don’t talk to the scammer and just hang up the phone.

Deputies also said if you believe you have an unpaid traffic ticket, warrants, or have not presented yourself for jury duty, please go to the Indio Larsen Justice Center, located at 46200 Oasis Street in Indio, or call authorities at 760-393-2617.
