Border Patrol finds 15 pounds of heroin hidden in man’s car
A 25-year-old man was busted by Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint Thursday afternoon when agents found 15.85 pounds of heroin hidden in his car.
Agents said the man, a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States, approached the checkpoint at 2:50 p.m. in a Chrysler Sebring. A Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the man’s car.
A secondary inspection of the man’s car revealed six packages of Mexican brown power heroin stashed inside the car’s rocker panel compartments, according to the Border Patrol’s release. The heroin is estimated to cost $150,000 on the street.
“Our agents put forth a magnificent effort and do a great job in keeping these dangerous drugs off of the streets and away from our communities,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is now in charge of the investigation.
