Flights restricted at Palm Springs International Airport

An unknown number of flights were diverted from Palm Springs International Airport Thursday night.

The airport is dealing with a lighting issue that has made it unsafe for planes to land, Airport Director Tom Nolan confirmed to CBS Local 2/KESQ.

Nolan said the runway is not usable right now, making it unsafe for landing so they’ve decided not to allow planes to land.

At least two flights will have to make other arraignments (i.e. being diverted to Ontario).

Flights are expected to go out by morning because lights are not required to land during daylight hours, he said.

Nolan said it’s not uncommon to have issues like this, but would not detail the extent of the issues, or how many flights were diverted. We do know that one of them was an Alaska Airlines flight from San Francisco.

Palm Springs International Airport is working on fixing this issue.
