General Patton Museum honors John Benoit, firefighter Sara Thomas

Crowds gathered at the General Patton Museum this holiday weekend, to honor the lives of two important community members.

Supervisor John Benoit and firefighter Sara Thomas were remembered for their service and commitment to the Coachella Valley. Both families were recognized as John and Sara’s names were added to memorials surrounding the museum.

The museum’s founder said it’s important to remember the reason behind the holiday weekend.

“It’s about honoring those who have gone before us, who have given 100 percent so that you and I can stand here, feel the breeze and feel the sun and be free. And you know we have to remember to thank them and remember them. It’s very important,” said Margit Chiriaco Rusche.

Following the ceremony, guests were invited to visit the museum for free.
