Assembly Member & former Coachella Mayor reacts to arrest of alleged Coachella gunman

A known gang member, accused of shooting a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy is expected to be arraigned in court Monday.

Gildardo Davila faces a number of charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly shooting Deputy David Solis more than a week ago in Coachella.

Authorities captured Davila, who was staying with family in Mexicali, and was taken into custody in Riverside County this past Thursday.

Assemblymember and former Coachella mayor, Eduardo Garcia, commended the teamwork of all law enforcement agencies, residents and community leaders who helped capture Davila.

“It’s good news to hear that our law enforcement, in collaboration with public safety officials on the other side of the Mexico border, Mexicali, were able to capture this individual. Ultimately, he will be held accountable for his actions and I think the Coachella Valley and the residents of the city of Coachella can sleep comfortable knowing that there’s one less individual running around in our streets, that can put not only our public safety officers in harm’s way, but the entire community,” Garcia said.

Davila is expected to appear in court in Indio.
