High-speed pursuit of suspect in stolen car called off for public safety

A suspect driving a stolen Volkswagen Jetta evaded authorities during a high-speed pursuit on westbound I-10 Tuesday morning.

The stolen 2015 blue Jetta has a Washington license plate numbered AVM8084. You’re asked to call 911 if you see the car.

Police began chasing the suspect after the car was stolen from a liquor store in Palm Springs Tuesday morning. The Palm Springs Police Department turned the pursuit over to the California Highway Patrol when the driver made it on to I-10, reaching speeds upwards of 100 miles per hour, according to authorities.

The suspect made it to the Beaumont area, passing cars in the center divider, and once the driver made it to Highway 60, officers lost sight of the car. The pursuit was ended just before 12 p.m. out of public safety, according to authorities.

The pursuit began at about 11:30 a.m. We’ll deliver updates as soon as we hear back from authorities.
