Locals react to testimony of former FBI Director James Comey

The testimony of former FBI director, James Comey was hard to miss with live feeds available on social media and TVs across the valley tuned into the hearing. This was no exception at Keedy’s Fountain and Grill in Palm Desert where customers watched as they ate breakfast.

The opinions among the diners wide ranging from Trump supporters to those that oppose the President’s policies.

La Quinta resident Jim Kay says he supports President Trump and watched the hearing to make his own opinion of what happened.

“You hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. You get the straight stuff. I get to make my own opinion based on what they say and how they say it.”

He says he finds the allegations Russian involvement in the election hard to believe.

“The whole thing is like a big witch hunt to me. and everything I see on television whether it’s Fox or CNN is so biased.”

Local resident Susan Crane says she would like to see some answers.

“I’m hoping that like a lot of other folks are that we get to the bottom and the truth of all the things that going on in our government today.”

Crane says she feels that at the same time it feels like the hearings serve as a distraction to what she sees as the real issues, such as healthcare and women’s reproductive rights, a topic she disagrees with the President.

“When you have groups of men making the decisions for our bodies, it’s kind of ridiculous really,” Crane said.

Those who couldn’t catch it on television were going to listen to it on the radio, like former federal civil prosecutor Steve Meyers.

Meyers says he’s interested in the legal semantics of the hearing, especially on the debate of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct investigations with his staff.

“It’s a really interesting question what is or is not obstruction of justice. I’m hearing a lot of highly placed lawyers saying it seems to approach line or did it go over the line or not,” Meyers said.

Others such as Anthony Rojas just wanted to get informed about the news involving Comey and President Trump.

“I was just curious about why he fired him and things like that so it’s interesting to see if he’s hiding anything.”

All of the people who spoke with us say that despite their differences, they simply just want to come together as a country.
