Pride month events in Palms Springs include vigil for Pulse Nightclub attack victims

It will be a busy weekend in Downtown Palm Springs with Pride Month events scheduled. There will be a mix of celebration and somber remembrance for the victims of the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando.

There will be a vigil Saturday night to remember the victims of the shooting. The names of the 49 people who died will be read aloud and a moment of silence will be observed at 11:02 p.m., when the first shots were fired. This Monday will mark the one year anniversary of the shooting which is considered to be the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11 and the deadliest incident against the LGBTQ community in the U.S. history.

The vigil will begin at 10:30 p.m. Saturday with the reading of the names. It will take place on Arenas Road, between Indian Canyon Drive and Calle Encilia.

On Sunday, there will be the Equality March for Unity and Pride. The parade is being coordinated by Palm Springs Pride along with dozens of LGBTQ organizations.
