Total cellphone blackout for comedy fans at Chris Rock show

Chris Rocks Total Blackout Tour is just that, a total blackout for cellphones and digital devices.

The comedian is having every person who brings a cellphone to the Friday performance at Fantasy Springs Casino put their phone into a locking cases.

The cases are designed by a Yondr, a company that did the same service for comedian Dave Chappelle.

They are designed to prevent anyone from recording the show and making sure people are focused on the jokes.

“A lot of people have experienced a cellphone in front of them for an entire concert and if we provide something that prevents that problem for them they are excited about it,” said Scott Krueger, a brand representative for Yondr.

Folks you come to concert will carry their phones in the case while inside the venue. If they need to use their phone they can unlock it in the lobby and then put it back in the case before going back into the show.

If a person is caught sneaking a phone into the venue they get kicked out and any images or recordings are deleted. The cases come in two sizes and are able to fit phones with large cases. Phones are turned off, placed on silent or vibrate before going in the pouch.

Folks waiting for doors to open took a last chance to a snap a picture of their ticket or check their Facebook before the heading in.

Some were upset they wouldn’t have immediate access to their device for a couple of hours.”I am not happy about it because I am a Warriors fan and I have to deal with not getting score updates,” said Steve Krause of Woodland Hills.

“I would have loved to take photographs of him, but I can understand that he wants to keep his material without it being copied and put on the YouTube,” said Howard Weise of Orange County.

Others were also understandable.

“You know it wouldn’t be fair to him if it leaks. If you want to see what’s going on pay just like everyone else and come in and see the jokes,” said Tenosha McNeese-Olek of Redlands. The cases are working.

According to Chris Rock’s security no pictures of video from this tour have been leaked from any venue.
