Juvenile arrested after confessing to armed robbery of Indio convenience store
Indio police said a juvenile has been arrested after confessing to robbing a convenience store with a rifle last month, making off with $75. Sgt. Dan Marshall said officers were able to track down the suspect with some help from the public.
The suspect isn’t being identified as he is a juvenile.
The armed robbery occurred on May 26 at 1:24 a.m. at the Circle K convenience store located at 80980 Madison Ave., according to Indio police Sgt. Marshall.
The suspect tried to enter the store twice but found the door was locked. On his second attempt, he was able to get the clerk’s attention, while hiding the rifle, the sergeant said.
The suspect and clerk talked for a short time, and the suspect left, but returned after the clerk accidentally left the door unlocked, Marshall said.
With his face covered and the rifle brandished, the juvenile forced the clerk to open the register, scooped up cash and ran away from the store.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity was asked to call the Indio Police Department at (760) 541-4051, or Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867 to anonymously offer a tip. And that information ultimately led to the juvenile’s arrest.
The Indio Police Department wanted to thank everyone for the help.
