Highway 18 set to reopen as firefighters make progress battling the Holcomb fire

Highway 18 is set to reopen Friday morning as firefighters make progress battling the Holcomb fire near Big Bear. The fire stands at 35 percent contained, which is the first amount of progress seen in days.

Over 1,200 firefighters are working to contain the fire, which has been burning since Monday. They managed to hold the fire to 1,562 acres Thursday, while continuing to battle warm temperatures and difficult terrain.

Mandatory evacuations have been lifted, but people are being asked to monitor the fire and be prepared to leave if conditions change.
