Desert Hot Springs man found with multiple illegal weapons

A Desert Hot Springs man is behind bars after a vehicle code violation led police to find illegal weapons in his car.

Police approached a parked car Sunday morning on the 66100 block of 2nd Street in Desert Hot Springs to inquire about a code violation. A records check of the driver revealed that 27-year-old Edwin Ortiz-Martinez was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

He was carrying a loaded pistol magazine. Police also found a loaded stolen handgun, a loaded sawed-off shotgun, body armor, ammunition, and suspected heroin.

Martinez was booked into the Riverside County jail in Banning on eight separate charges: prohibited person possessing firearm, Prohibited person possessing ammunition, carry concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
