Chriaco Summit freeway crash injures 5, blocks lanes

Five people were injured, one seriously, in a solo vehicle freeway wreck Wednesday in Chiriaco Summit. The accident was reported just before 1 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 10, east of Cottonwood Springs Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a van crashed on the freeway, blocking both eastbound lanes.

One person was seriously injured in the crash and was airlifted to a hospital, said Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department. The other four patients suffered moderate injuries and were taken to hospitals by ground ambulance.

The roadway was blocked for about two hours for the investigation and clean-up.
