Cheerleaders injured in bus crash

A charter bus carrying a youth cheerleading team collided with a big rig that caught fire in the desert east of Indio Wednesday afternoon.

Three of the cheerleaders suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Westbound traffic was stopped for hours afterward.

Eastbound lanes were reopened just before 8 p.m., but all westbound lanes remain closed.

A CHP officer told us that there is still no word on when roads will be back open.

Westbound drivers are being allowed to pass through the right-hand shoulder until lanes are ready to be reopened.
