Mart fire falls to 607 acres, 40% containment

The California Highway Patrol reopened northbound Highway 330 at Highland Avenue Tuesday afternoon when a vegetation fire erupted in Highland. The fire is estimated to have grown to 607 acres as of 7:45 p.m.

Authorities are calling it the Mart Fire. It has grown to 902 acres and is at 15 % containment as of Wednesday affternoon. Mandatory evacuations were issued but the order has since been lifted.

This fire sparked one day after the Manzanita Fire ignited south of Beaumont, growing quickly to 5,800 acres.

The closure of Highway 330 is estimated to last until about 6:30 p.m., according to the San Bernardino Forestry Service. Highway 18 through Lucerne and Highway 38 through Mentone are open.
