Two killed in Landers crash

A 21-year-old man from Yucca Valley and a 52-year-old man from Desert Hot Springs were killed in an early morning head-on crash near Landers on Wednesday.

The crash happened at about 4 a.m. just north of Linn Road, according to authorities.

Neither of the victims have been identified at this time. They were in a Mitsubishi Lancer, traveling northbound behind a Jeep Liberty when a chain events led to the deadly crash.

A man from Victorville was driving a Dodge truck southbound on the highway while towing a 30-foot trail cruiser. For unknown reasons, he crossed the double yellow line on the highway, entering the northbound lane and colliding with the Jeep.

The Jeep spun out of control while the Dodge truck continued in the wrong lane, colliding with the Lancer head-on, according to authorities. The victims died at the scene of the crash.

A man from Joshua Tree was driving the Jeep with two passengers from Yucca Valley. The Jeep caught fire after the collision but all of them managed to make it out safely. The driver sustained small lacerations to his arms and face, officers said.

The man driving the Dodge wasn’t injured in the crash.

The official cause of the crash is still under investigation. KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates when the crash victims are identified.
