Businesses anticipate boost in sales Fourth of July weekend

Businesses are gearing up for another holiday weekend, but this year Fourth of July falls on a Tuesday.

“It’s a quick turnaround from the beach. You can turn on a dime. Totally different climate, different atmosphere, different people,” said Dolores Hamann, who is visiting for the weekend.

Business owners say they’re ready for the influx in tourists.

“I’m expecting this weekend to be extremely busy, probably three times as much business as a normal weekend,” said Rob Wirt, owner of Bongo Johnny’s in Palm Springs.

Wirt says he’s doubling his staff to serve as many guests as possible.

Susan Swirple, a sales associate at Fashion Fix boutique, agrees, that there is always a boost in sales during holiday weekends.

“We expect to be very, very busy. With the Fourth of July weekend, people come in from all over California and all over the country,” Swirple said.

Arrive hotel in Palm Springs is already fully booked.

“People that want to get away from LA, San Diego, and that part of town to just come out and just relax and enjoy,” Kurt Englund, managing principal at Arrive said.

But it looks as if visitors are making their way back home by Tuesday.

“So far, what they’re going to do Tuesday, from what I’ve seen in our bookings, it looks like a lot of them are going to go back home and watch the fireworks closer to home,” Englund said.

“I think a lot of people want to head home either early Tuesday morning to beat the traffic but also to get a jump on recuperating and getting back into that work schedule,” Hamann said.
