Neighbor taken to hospital after house fire contained in Coachella

Fire ripped through a single-story Coachella home on Friday, sending a thick plume of billowing black smoke into the air. The fire was reported at 1:50 p.m. at a single-story home in the 51000 block of Douma Street in Coachella, near Bagdouma Park.

The house fire ignited at just about the same time as a fire that ripped through an home in Indio, consuming half of the house, according to Cal Fire officials.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 received a Facebook video from viewer Anthony Reyes as firefighters began to attack the blaze.

The two-alarm blaze was fought by 39 county firefighters, according to Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department. No injuries were reported in connection with the fire, which was contained by crews at 2:50 p.m., Cabral said.

But, a neighbor was taken to the hospital due to having minor difficulty breathing, authorities told KESQ and CBS Local 2’s Joe Galli at the scene. We’ll deliver updates as fire investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.
