It was all part of the national conservation lands summer family nights. The free event. west of Palm Springs — near Windy Point was hosted by the Bureau of Land Management.
People armed with black lights searched the desert sand in the White Water Wash.
When scorpions are hit with ultraviolet light, they glow green.
According to Tracy Albrecht with Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, the program is designed to promote visitation to public lands, see watchable wildlife and of course to have fun.
“It just means so much to every person. Every person gets a different experience but for the most part they connect with nature hopefully they will come back to places like this again and build on it,” said Tracy Albrecht, scorpion hunter for the BLM.
People were able to find two different species of scorpion in our area, the giant hairy scorpion and the sand scorpion.
