A Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy and his bloodhound are being praised for their heroic actions in locating a man with Alzheimer’s in Idyllwild.

Remember when we first introduced you to Windy in May of 2014?

Last Friday, Deputy Robert Ochoa and K9 Windy used a worn shirt belonging to Gilbert Jermott to track him down. Jermott had walked away from the Idyllwild Arts Academy earlier in the day.

Windy was able to follow Jermott’s scent two miles into the woods until she found him.

Jermott was dehydrated and disoriented but was evaluated and released to his wife.

RSO helicopter Star 9 dropped water and gatorade down to Jermott and the crews below, who had been working in temperatures that reached 95 degrees.
