Joshua Tree woman arrested after high-speed chase

Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Joshua Tree woman following a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.

Deputies saw a grey van traveling westbound on Twentynine Palms Highway with no head lights on.

Deputies tried stopping the van driven by Sierra Embry, 29, at the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Palm Avenue in Yucca Valley, but Embry avoided deputies for several miles. Embry was the only person inside the van at the time.

According to deputies, she continued westbound on Twentynine Palms Highway, at times reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, and driving across several lanes on the highway throughout the chase.

Embry finally came to a stop after running over spike strips put down by California Highway Patrol officers.

Embry was arrested for felony evading, and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
