Motoryclist dies in high speed collision
Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a car versus motorcycle crash near the 5200 block of SR-247 in Yucca Valley Wednesday night around 6:00. Deputies from the Major Accident Investigation Team also responded due to the severity of the injuries reported.
Investigators learned 25-year-old Bryce Sterling was riding his 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on SR-247, in heavy traffic between 80 to 100 mph. Fifty-one-year-old Liliana Montoya was also northbound on SR-247 in her 2010 Nissan Altima and had slowed to about 20 mph, with her left turn signal on, to make a left turn into a driveway. Multiple witnesses had also slowed behind Montoya so she could turn.
As Montoya turned, Sterling tried to pass her vehicle on the left, at close to 100 mph and collided broadside into the driver side of her car. Montoya wasn’t hurt, but Sterling was thrown from his motorcycle.
He suffered multiple major traumatic injuries and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs where he later died.
